How to optimize the microbial life of the digester?

Comment optimiser la vie microbienne du digesteur ? - Methappro

The methanizer is a biological system that relies on the presence of microorganisms to degrade organic matter and produce biogas. To optimize the microbial life of your digester, you can follow these tips:

  1. Ensure the temperature is optimal: The ideal temperature for microbial life in a methane digester is generally between 35 and 40°C. Check that the temperature is kept constant to allow optimal growth of microorganisms.

  2. Balance the carbon/nitrogen ratio: The organic matter used as substrate must be balanced in carbon and nitrogen to allow optimal growth of microorganisms. If the ratio is unbalanced, it can slow growth and decrease biogas production.

  3. Maintain a stable pH: The pH of the digester must be maintained in an optimal range to promote the growth of microorganisms. Methanogenic bacteria prefer a pH between 6.8 and 7.5.

  4. Stir regularly: Agitation helps maintain an even distribution of microorganisms and nutrients throughout the digester. It also helps prevent dead zones from forming where the growth of microorganisms can be hindered.

  5. Add nutrients: If the substrate used is poor in nutrients, it may be necessary to add additional trace elements to promote bacterial growth.

  6. Monitor for contaminants: Contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides or antibiotics can harm the growth of microorganisms and reduce biogas production. It is important to monitor the presence of these contaminants in the substrate.
